How to Handle Rejection and Feeling Like a Failure

As an artist one is bound to experience failure and rejection. Being rejected from a show or just not getting that painting you are working on to become a masterpiece is inevitable. Failure often makes you doubt yourself and your abilities. It can even make you question if you should consider giving up and do something else with your life. You have to believe in your talent and follow your passion. You can’t fixate on your perceived weaknesses or how someone else might have judged your artwork.

Failure and rejection can be teachers. They can teach us resilience, faith and perseverance. Rejection can happen to all of us and is the bitter medicine that can help us improve and change direction, build our confidence and see from a new perspective. Failures can provide us with powerful lessons that can help us to learn and grow. They can be a guide on our journey to becoming a better artist. You have to be able to see rejection as an opportunity for growth and not a personal attack on your capabilities. If you can face this you will be more resilient to face obstacles in the future.

Always remember it is okay to fail, it happens to both amateurs and masters alike.
