Our Mission: ARTsisters is a group of professional women visual artists who empower each other and the community through art. It is our belief that the collective energy generated, motivated and inspired by emerging women artists creates synergy. We further believe that the numerous distractions and overwhelming responsibilities that our lives present tend to drain us if we stand alone. Therefore, our mission is to unite, support, share, encourage, critique and, sometimes, push our sisters when we cannot go it alone. The creative resources each and every one of us possess, once collected, organized and made available collaboratively, will provide a never-ending inspirational wealth that no one of us could accumulate without the others. There are so many things each of us does not know; yet it is our view that there is nothing that we don't know collectively. We share our creative energy to benefit the community through exhibitions, special projects, workshops, and art donations. Our History: ARTsisters was founded in December 2005, by Linda Dubin Garfield who realized that her long-time friend and fellow artist Leslie DeBrocky functioned as more than a friend when it came to discussing and helping with her art. She was really an ARTsister, one who understood the process and could really understand the highs and lows involved with the challenges of a professional artist. Together they opened membership to other women and, through word of mouth, now have 20 members and an email list of more than 75 interested women artists. Sharing resources and offering support to each other, the members now have a schedule of shows, both individual and group, for the next few years, including shows in Manayunk, Wayne, Wynnewood, Old City and at the Wilmington Arts Commission in Delaware. Some of the non-profits we collaborate with include: Endow-A-Home, Philadelphia FIGHT, Juvenile Diabetes, The Wellness Community of Philadelphia, The Food Bank, and Laurel House.
